Louis Vuitton has announced their partnership with the Australian Open, which begins on January the 14th in Melbourne. For the Grand Slam tournament the French luxury fashion house have designed two bespoke trophy trunks, which will house the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup for women and the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup for men.
Each trunk has been hand designed by the brand’s in-house artisans, and features a wooden frame emblazoned in a canvas iteration of the iconic Louis Vuitton Monogram, finished with a classic lozine leather trim, and the same brass corner protectors, lock, and clasps that have been used on Louis Vuitton trunks since the 1860s.
Louis Vuitton has a long standing affiliation with tennis, starting with trophy trunks created for Roland Garros and the Davis Cup – which echoes the trophy cases made for such prestigious sporting tournaments as the FIFA World Cup, Ballon d’Or, Rugby World Cup, NBA Championship Trophy, Formula One’s Grand Prix de Monaco, League of Legends, and the America’s Cup.
Of the trophy trunks, Pietro Beccari, Chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton, said: “After the Trophy Trunks created for the Rugby World Cup and the Ballon d’Or in 2023, we are proud to announce this new partnership with the first Grand Slam tournament of 2024, which once again shows that Victory travels in Louis Vuitton. For more than 170 years, the Maison has been creating trunks that embody excellence, creativity and audacity, all values we share with the world’s greatest sporting events”.
