Joining Johnson – who takes up the role as Sir! Editor-in-Chief – are Robin Derrick as Creative Director, David Bradshaw as Fashion Director, and Jimmy McIntosh as Editor.
As part of his role at Circle08 Media, Gary Armstrong will oversee the magazine as Creative Marketing Officer. Johnson has held senior roles at i-D, Man About Town, and GQ Style, and will continue in his role as Editor-in-Chief of CircleZeroEight.
Robin Derrick has over 25 years fashion and media experience, and previously served as Creative Director of British Vogue, The Face, and Arena, amongst others.
Bradshaw launched GQ Style, and has held the positions of Creative Director at Arena and Fashion Director at Arena Homme +.
McIntosh is a freelance writer, who has contributed to titles including CircleZeroEight, The Face, and The Financial Times. “This feels like the right time for Sir!. It’s an idea that I’ve had for a while, and I’ve been inspired by magazines I loved when I was growing up.
I feel very fortunate to be able to launch this magazine with Robin and David, two people who have influenced the world of publishing greatly and who both come with a wealth of experience in the men’s lifestyle sector, having helped launch titles Arena and GQ Style respectively.
Jimmy McIntosh was always my first choice as Editor for Sir! – I think he is the man that we are speaking to, and I’m really looking forward to him being part of the story. Sir! is for men who want to read something interesting – something with a sense of humour – and look good. I truly believe there is a space in the market for a straight to consumer commercial mens title. Sir! is here to occupy this space”.- Elgar Johnson Robin Derrick says: “I’m excited to launch Sir!. Men today deserve a publication that speaks to all facets of their lives – from culture and fashion to career and personal growth.
We’re delivering that. I’ve been part of media’s evolution – from the rise of desktop publishing, through to the digital revolution. But today, more than ever, I see the need for a publication that offers men an authoritative, well-crafted voice. Sir! is that voice”. David Bradshaw says: “As a Fashion Director I don’t seek to challenge anything other than the limits to self expression we place upon ourselves, particularly us men.
Fashion to me is about confidence and self-esteem, and encouraging more men to be more interested in more fashion has always been my drive. Menswear is as dynamic and expressive right now as it’s ever been. I’m really excited to be part of Sir!, who will guide you through it all”. “I think I took under a second to say ‘yes’ when Elgar approached me to become Editor at Sir!”, says Jimmy McIntosh. “It’s a super exciting project: the chance to create something truly compelling, and relatable for blokes like me. I can’t wait to get started”.
“Adding Sir! to the Circle08 Media portfolio is an exciting new stage of the brand’s overall development”, CMO Gary Armstrong adds. “We’ll be covering a fortified range of commercial sectors and speaking directly to our readership about topics they are inspired by, aspire to, and will invest in. I am thrilled to be taking this new product to market, and working together with the editorial team to bring a breadth of knowledge in men’s fashion and lifestyle publishing.
This sets Sir! apart and will be key to creating a unique and industry-invigorating commercial opportunity”.
