French luxury swimwear brand Vilebrequin, in collaboration with Swiss contemporary art publisher JRP|Editions, is making waves with the release of “The Artists’ Editions Volume II”. The novel collection, curated by MAMCO Geneva Director Lionel Bovier and JRP|Editions CEO Arnaud Hubert, sees art escaping the canvas, embarking on a journey from galleries to beaches.
American artists Deux Femmes Noires, Mickalene Thomas and Racquel Chevremont, feature prominently in the new collection, enhancing Vilebrequin’s signature pieces with vibrant collages inspired by the Harlem Renaissance period. Aimed at pushing the visibility of artists of color, particularly women, the collection balances aesthetics and meaning to transform swimsuits into wearable art pieces.
As part of the launch, an immersive booth was set up at the Untitled Art Fair in Miami, where guests got a sneak peek of the new line. The collection, inclusive of swimsuits, beachwear, bags, and accessories, will be available from May 2023 in Vilebrequin stores and online.
